This project will utilize Access Management strategies to improve the roadway corridor.
“Access Management is the proactive management of vehicular access points to land parcels adjacent to all manner of roadways. Access Management encompasses a set of techniques the state and local governments can use to control access to highways, major arterials and other roadways.

Implementing Access Management strategies can provide benefits in three major areas:

• Increased roadway capacity- By more efficiently managing or eliminating conflict points on a particular roadway, traffic can be made to flow more freely and provide increased capacity for the corridor.

• Reduction in the number and severity of accidents- By eliminating the number of conflict points a reduction in the number of accidents usually results. It is also possible to use historical accident data to identify areas which may pose increased risk. Eliminating “right angle conflicts” by the use of strategies such as indirect left turns not only reduces the number of accidents but also reduces the severity of those accidents that do occur.

• Reduced travel times- By improving traffic flow the travelling public can not only benefit by spending less time in transit but it also results in fuel savings and improved air quality.

Access Management addresses seven areas

  • Facility hierarchy
  • Intersection and interchange spacing
  • Driveway spacing
  • Traffic signal spacing
  • Median treatments and median openings
  • Turning lanes and auxiliary lanes
  • Street connections
